A Year With God

I have been reading A Year With God by R.P. Nettelhorst, which was given to me by BookSneeze to review.

I thought this was an excellent devotional if you are not looking to get real deep into a study everyday. The commentary on each passage was insightful, and I could tell that the auther had put thought and prayer into what he wrote for us to read. However, each passage for the day was pretty short, and the commentary was only a paragraph or two long... a very good start for the day, but I don't think this book is helping me to grow a lot deeper with Christ. I have very much been enjoying it as a way to get my mind thinking about Christ in the mornings though.

The book is laid out by subject, and I think the author does a great job sticking to those subjects and even adding a perspective to them that I would not have thought of on my own.
The format is very easy to use as the scripture passages are written out for you with the author's commentary below it. Some reviews on this book have been negative due to the fact that the author uses a variety of translations in his text, but I personally found this to be refreshing. I liked being exposed to new translations, and I always go back to my own bible if I think anything may be lacking or different in the translation A Year With God uses.
I also enjoyed the fact that the author focused on the actual words of God throughout the bible. Again this was a unique perspective that I enjoyed.

Overall, I felt that this was a good starter devotional, but not my favorite. I like to get a little bit deeper in my studies.
